Team Kendall wins the "4 Hours of Salt Lake"

Troy and TJ Kendall drove a near faultless race totaling 67.86 miles in their #3 GT1 Tamiya TA04-R Ford Mustang (how did that body style slip in?) powered by NiMH batteries and a Checkpoint 19T motor on Sorex tires utilizing HPI rims and inserts to victory in the second 4 Hours of Salt Lake.

Congratulations to their overall and class victory!

Hello racers,

I want to sincerely thank all the teams.

To Troy and TJ Kendall, for their overall victory in a well planned and executed race. An "old" TA04 with a brushed motor won the race! The Mustang was planted from the start and they were never more than a couple of laps behind the number #1 GT1 Hoffman/Turner entry. They showed unbelievable consistency throughout the race. Ed picked them as the "dark horse" and a side bet would have almost paid out well for the prognosticator.

To Mike Cartwright, Craig Ward, and Brad Johnson, for their tenacity keeping a car on the track despite numerous problems. I loved the realistic looking Saleen. It was cool to have a new team enter the 4 hours and hope you'll come again next year. Had they not had so many problems they might have won the event with the pace the three drivers had.

To Paul and Ryan for putting their LMP2 car on the podium and class victory for the Lola Mazda ( which I thought was the best looking car on the track until they removed the cool carbon fiber bumper).

To Mike Long for his solo effort in GT2. Not only really cool that he represented the Porsche Cup class all by himself but that he raced by himself. Maximum points and an impressive run for the iron man effort.

To Rod Borget and Matt Lund for bringing their cool looking Saleen to the track and putting in a huge effort to race to the finish. Like the #7 Saleen, we (Fred and I) immediately went into testing mode to get the car happy. Once the Borget/Lund Saleen found the right tire and how to handle radio preferences they came alive as a team.

To Ed Hoffman and Jason Turner for setting the pace early and looked so strong until the one part they couldn't afford to break broke. For the defending champs they looked very determined and a battle between them and the Kendall GT1 entry was going to be epic. The green #1 entry needed some decals but it was hard to ignore the 8000mah Lipo's in the garage and the effortless pace the TC5 set for the first half of the race. Better luck next time.

The #4 Benske Team Porsche RS Spyder had a challenging day. Early practice and qualifying proved deceptive. The car was very good but soon the real handling revealed itself. A lesson learned in set up and driving preferences. Thank you Bill for tirelessly marshaling our car!

I had a blast. Of course I wouldn't be doing it if I couldn't race myself. It was a real treat for me to see the different classes racing just like the American Lemans series (www.americanlemans.com) from which we stole/borrowed the idea.

For those interested we will have another endurance race in October (the 13th) at Fastkart. And we will run the 4 Hours of Salt Lake in the spring next year in cooler climes.

Thanks again everyone and we will post up photos, times, and video over the next week as it is collected. Thank you Bill and Rod for taking photos. Especially Bill for taking the time to come a photograph the event.

Thanks to our local sponsors, West Valley Hobbies, Fastkart, APEX Hobby, Viking Steel, and Savage Construction. Without your help these events would not be possible. To our national sponsors HPI Racing and Xtreme Magazine, thank you for your support and look forward to many more successful events in the future.

Ben Parker,
ASERS President

Updated pics from Team Professor

The Lola Mazda is looking fantastic... Updated graphics and revised front air dam. A close up would reveal this is all carbon fiber just like the real ones. Very sexy.

Could this be the new P1 chassis...

LMP1 going 200mm? Look for updates regarding the class on this blog. This class will feature closed cockpits just like the future of all prototype LMP1 cars at Le Mans from 2008.
